Batch tracking

Definition

A batch is a defined quantity reflecting one homogeneous process including all materials, equipment and processes used from raw material to packing material. This ensures that products with the same batch number are homogeneous in all aspects.

A product is released batchwise based on the performed in-process controls and the test results of the finished product. The result of the final test is documented in the certificate of analysis.

If, at a later point, the product is found out of specifications in analysis terms, the unique batch number helps us to identify exactly who has received the batch in question.

Bar code system

Dealing with products as sensitive as medicine and medical devices implies a continuous focus on controlled product handling as well as the complete possibility of tracing products to any destination.

Whenever products are delivered to our warehouse, they are marked with a bar code for easy identification. The bar code includes details about product type, manufacturer, manufacturing date, expiry date and batch number.

When the products leave our warehouse again, the bar code details are transferred to invoices and packing lists by means of our radio-linked hand terminals with built-in bar code readers.   This ensures that any product can be traced from our warehouse to the final recipient.

Records of all incoming and distributed batches are kept in our computer system and certificates are filed with the internal quality documents in our quality system. All documentation is kept for at least five years or two years after expiry date.

Product recalls

If the product needs to be withdrawn from the market, our fully integrated computer system ensures a fast and easy tracking of all batches in question, and all recipients will be notified immediately.

Customisation

If required by the customer, our barcode system allows us to design a barcode according to the customer’s own specifications.
