Supply agreement for Coartem®

We are proud to announce that Missionpharma recently entered into a supply agreement with Novartis Pharma AG for the procurement of the life-saving malaria treatment Coartem®.

Coartem® is currently the only pre-qualified, fixed-dose artemisinin-based combination therapy (ACT), and it combines Artemether (an artemisinin derivative) with Lumefantrine.

It is a highly effective and well-tolerated product with cure rates of above 95% - even in areas of multi-drug resistance where traditional antimalarial drugs, such as Chloroquine and Sulfadoxine-Pyrimethamine (SP), are ineffective.

Coartem® clears parasites from the blood faster than other non-artemisinin anti-malaria drugs, and it also helps to reduce the transmission of the disease. In some regions of Africa, the number of malaria cases has dropped by more than 90%, when ACTs were used in combination with other malaria control measures.

Coartem® was co-developed by Novartis in collaboration with Chinese partners, who also supply the active ingredients, Artemether and Lumefantrine. The product is currently registered in 75 countries worldwide and more than 17 million treatment courses have been supplied to the public sector in developing countries since 2001.

By entering a supply agreement with Novartis, Missionpharma actively contributes to making this life-saving drug available in developing countries, thereby enabling more patients to benefit from this important therapy.

We experience a considerable increase in requests for Coartem®, and the product is regularly included in our standard supplies as well as in kit projects.

Please do not hesitate to contact us for further information about prices and availability.
