SuPARnostic: A new revolutionary HIV test
A new HIV test will be released on the marked in the 1st quarter of 2007.
The test is called SuPARnostic and has been developed by the Danish biotech company, Virogates, on funds from Missionpharma, amongst others.
Through the concentration of suPAR, the test indicates the speed of the progression of the disease. The test enables clinicians to determine who best to treat and when, thus reducing incidences of drug resistance, and saving lives by administering treatment on time.
The SuPARnostic has been especially developed for Africa and the test is ideal for the African market. In this context, the product is revolutionary due to the fact that:
-
SuPARnostic is simple and inexpensive. It costs seven times less than similar products on the market.
-
SuPARnostic is widely transportable and suPAR is stable in plasma for several days at room temperature (several months at 5ºC).
-
Plasma and serum are easier to process and store than whole blood, and the amount of plasma required for suPAR measurement is minimal.
-
SuPAR is measured with a simple immunoassay (ELISA) with very few technical requirements and extremely low startup costs.
The SuPARnostic is expected to be released ultimo 2006 / primo 2007.
