Ketamine - now a narcotic drug
With immediate effect from February 8, 2008, the euphoriant drug, Ketamine, is classified as a narcotic drug.
This means that Ketamine must be accompanied by the appropriate licences (import license and export license) every time the product is imported/exported.
The licences are issued by the National Drug Regulatory Affairs, i.e. the Danish Medicines Agency. This process can take from 2-3 days to 5-6 weeks depending on the National Drug Regulatory Affair in the particular country. As a result, this may affect the lead time of the product considerably.
As immediate aid is crucial in emergency situations, time does not allow us to obtain such licences. Therefore, Missionpharma has decided to exclude Ketamine injections from our Interagency Emergency Health Kit to accommodate the need for immediate shipment.
Ketamine Hydrochloride is a rapid acting general anesthetic typically administered epidurally for analgesia, and has now become a drug of abuse because of its hallucinogenic effects.
The background for the ban is the fact that Ketamine involves a significant risk to the health as it may impose psychological complications and serious poisoning. Ketamine is used as a pain killer and there are no immediate alternatives to the product.
